As rumors swirl about the possibility of a fifth installment in the Thor franchise following 2022’s ‘Love And Thunder’, Taika Waititi has offered a tantalizing glimpse into his potential plans. Though an official confirmation is pending, the director has let slip his creative aspirations for the future of Thor’s cinematic journey.
In an excerpt from the ‘Thor: Love And Thunder The Official Movie Special’ book (via Screenrant), Waititi discusses his desire for Thor to encounter even more formidable adversaries in his upcoming adventures. He remarks, “Where do we go from here? It’s crucial that the next challenge continues the character’s growth, yet retains the inherent fun and charm. We must present him with obstacles that build upon his evolution.”
The director is candid about raising the bar when it comes to villains, noting, “Hela (Cate Blanchett) set a high standard. We can’t settle for anything less now. We’re striving to introduce a villain who possesses even greater might.”
Waititi envisions a visually stunning spectacle as well, expressing his wish for the film to feature a myriad of eccentric creatures and extraterrestrial beings. He explains, “Thor carries an essence of nonchalance and confidence as he navigates different worlds and engages with aliens. This element is unique to him, setting him apart from a human traveler exploring space.”
The sequel, helmed by Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale, currently boasts a commendable 71 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This positioning places it slightly above ‘The Incredible Hulk’ (67 percent) and ‘Thor: The Dark World’ (66 percent). ‘Eternals’ remains the lowest-rated MCU film with a less impressive score of 47 percent.
